How to track billable hours accurately
Billable hours are the hours you can legitimately charge a client for productive work. The gap between "hours at my desk" and "hours I can bill" is where freelance income leaks, and it is also where over-billing disputes start. A few habits keep your records clean.
Log sessions as they happen
If you try to reconstruct your week on Friday afternoon, you will end up under-counting some sessions and over-counting others. Note the start and end of each focused session as it happens, and write down what it was for. This tool is a fast way to total those sessions. A running timer app is the better way to capture them in the first place.
Subtract real breaks
If you stop for lunch or step away from the desk, that time isn't billable. Deduct it in the break column. Clients notice when every entry is a suspiciously round number. Honest, specific records are what get an invoice paid without questions.
Round consistently, and tell your client how
Many freelancers bill in 15-minute increments. That's fine, as long as you round the same way every time (not always up) and your client knows the convention. Rounding that changes from one entry to the next is what looks like padding.

Does this save my timesheet?
No. It runs entirely in your browser and doesn't upload anything. Copy the summary or add it to an invoice before you close the tab, because nothing is stored on our side.
What if a session runs past midnight?
If the end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator assumes the session crossed midnight and counts the hours accordingly.
Should I bill in 6, 10 or 15 minute units?
Any of them works if you're consistent and transparent about it. Fifteen minutes is the most common choice for freelancers. Smaller units suit high-rate legal or consulting work.
